Inside One Thames Quay:
Behind the design with Alice Grimes
BEHIND THE SCENE
When it comes to show apartments, there’s more than meets the eye. One Thames Quay isn’t just about impressing at first glance—it’s about creating a space where modern and eco-friendly intertwine effortlessly. For this project, we aimed to capture the lifestyle of young, city-living professionals who want an aspirational home that also feels personal and liveable. To get the full picture, we sat down with Alice, our Senior Director at BoxNine7, to dive into the details behind the design.
The colour palette instantly grabs attention. What was the inspiration behind it?
“We wanted the space to feel light, fresh, and collected. Using a mix of Bauwerk and Coat paints, we crafted a base that feels clean and open, while still being warm and inviting. The terracotta wall finish in the living area was a key choice—it adds a depth that draws you in and makes the space feel cosy.
Our aim was to speak to young professionals who appreciate elegant but still want a space that feels lived-in. That’s why we layered the room with eclectic artwork that looks like it’s been gathered over time—like pieces picked up on travels or at antiques markets. It creates that “collected” feel, adding personality and a sense of history to the modern setting..”
Sustainability is clearly a big focus here. How did you integrate it into the apartment design?
“Absolutely, being environmentally conscious was the key for this project, especially given that One Thames Quay is recognised as a eco-conscious development. The client’s commitment to incorporating as many sustainable elements as possible really aligned with our values at BoxNine7. As part of AGC, we’re always striving to push the boundaries of eco-friendly practices in our designs”
“We considered the environmental impact of every element, from the flooring right up to the window treatments and accessories. Throughout the apartment, we used Bauwerk and COAT paints and chose furnishings crafted from sustainable materials like reclaimed wood and recycled fabrics. Even smaller details, such as the choice of organic cotton cushions and responsibly sourced wood furniture, were made with sustainability in mind. It’s about creating a space that’s beautiful and comfortable, without compromising our values or the planet.”
If you had to pick a favourite piece in the apartment, what would it be?
“I’d say the lovely artwork in the principal bedroom. It’s a piece from Artbox London, a wonderful charity and social enterprise that supports artists with learning disabilities and autistic creators. What I love most is that it not only adds a unique, personal touch to the space, but it also supports a truly meaningful cause.”
Share a secret about the design at One Thames Quay. Is there a hidden detail that most people might not notice?
“There's a special artwork above the TV unit, which was actually created by one of our designers, Harriet! The vibrant pink and orange hues really bring vibrancy and energy to the living room. The piece ties in beautifully with the walls and adds a contemporary edge that still feels warm and welcoming.”
Lastly, what does this project say about BoxNine7's approach to modern living?
“At BoxNine7, we strive to create interiors that resonate with how people want to live today—spaces that are not only beautiful but also functional and sustainable. This show apartment is a reflection of that philosophy, blending stylish with environmental responsibility and a deep understanding of contemporary lifestyle needs. It’s about creating interiors that not only look good but also feel good and do good.”
