We are pleased to introduce our latest show home with award-winning Housing Association Poplar HARCA, Aberfeldy Village.

 

On a mission to do good for our planet, as you walk through the apartment you will find carefully selected artwork and products in many forms, sourced from creators and artisans within the surrounding East London area. No corner was left untouched with our all-inclusive interior design service, offering the lucky future homeowner a turnkey design.

“My design intent for this project was all about encompassing Eco-worlds values and vision - being vibrant, creative, and of course, incorporating the life and character that the locals have injected into the area. 

During my research into the area, I was instantly inspired by Aberfeldy Street’s energy. In March 2020, Poplar HARCA commissioned a new public artwork influenced by local residents and business owners. I loved the concept behind this and wanted to mirror this within the design of the show home to truly reflect the true nature of the area.”

Local Artwork.

To reflect the true vibrancy of the area, you are instantly invited into the space by warm pops of colour and patterns. Taking inspiration from street art commissioned by Poplar Harca on the nearby Aberfeldy Street, a deep pink wall and striking mustard sofa sets the tone of the apartment. Artwork completes the open plan living room, with prints from the likes of Kelly Anna and Yink Ilori.

Continuing through to the principal bedroom, soothing sage tones and burnt oranges create a peaceful place to retreat to. Above the bed, artwork from Karimah Hassan’s ‘The Strangers Yearbook’ brings in the colours from the other rooms within the apartment, fusing the spaces together.

The Finishing Touches.

Whilst researching into the area we found some amazing products we had to include within the scheme. From the East London Liquor Co. styled throughout the living area through to the skincare displayed in the bathroom, these completed the contemporary design as well as help potential buyers envision themselves living there.   • Kelly Anna.

    Kelly Anna is an Artist, Painter and Designer known for her powerful, silhouetted figures. She is inspired by Matisse’s collages with a modern twist. She has collaborated with the likes of Nike, Lego, Propercorn and some of her prints have been worn by Beyonce and Cara Delevingne.

  • Yinka Ilori.

    Nigerian born, British artist Yinka Ilori started his career upcycling furniture pieces. He used fabrics, inspired by West African patterns and colours which surrounded him whilst growing up. He explores the power of storytelling, combined with creative craft. Hanging above the dining area you will spot Yinka’s ‘Love Always Wins’ print.

  • Karimah Hassan.

    Seen in the principal bedroom, Painter, performance and portrait artist, Karimah Hassan spent lockdown creating ‘The Strangers Yearbook’. This explored the emotion people expressed during the pandemic by submissions to her Instagram with an answer to her question ‘How are you feeling?’.

  • East London Liquor Co.

    East London Liquor is set amongst the canals and warehouses of Bow and Victoria Park. The aim was to produce a local and affordable liquor whilst being high in quality. You’ll find some in the apartment’s fridge, don’t drink it all at once!

  • Greta In Flowers.

    Gita Lazdane is the founder of Greta in Flowers, a London homebased floral design studio. Complementing the overall colour scheme, we chose a vibrant bunch of flowers from ‘The Super Market’ pop up in Shoreditch.

  • Flora Paperie.

    With a desire to think out-of-the-box and not purchase high street, Bindy started her venture, Flora Paperie, creating hand-crafted paper flowers made from the highest quality Italian crepe paper. They last forever and create a lasting memory. For a pop of colour on the coffee table, we chose to support Bindy Carter’s new venture, Flora Paperie.

  • Who Gives A Crap.

    Who Gives a crap was created after the founders learnt that 2.4 billion people don’t have access to a toilet. That is roughly 40% of the global population. Because of this, they donate 50% of their profits to help build toilets and improve sanitation around the world.

    They source from farmers who plant bamboo on the borders of their small family farms. It helps supplement their income and unlike industrial agriculture, it also means no vast areas of land are cleared.

  • Green Leaf Monkey.

    Offering a variety of sustainable bamboo products, Bamboo is an environmentally sustainable material, the world’s fastest naturally renewing resource, which is also inherently anti-microbial, anti-fungal and anti-bacterial.

  • Monta Monta Skincare.

    Found in the bathroom, Monta Monta Skincare uses locally sourced raw materials including spent espresso grounds. These are no longer good for drinking ¬but still contain significant levels of skin-boosting antioxidants and caffeine. They collect waste grounds from local coffee shops to process and re-purpose into their sage and coffee body scrub.
