Behind the Design with Harriet Knowlton:
Bringing Australia to Life at Graphite Square

BEHIND THE SCENE

We’re beyond excited to share our latest show apartment at Graphite Square with you. This isn’t just any project—it’s a space where modern London vibes meet the laid-back elegance of Australian design. Our talented Interior Designer, Harriet Knowlton, has brought this vision to life. Having grown up in Australia, Harriet has a deep connection to the inspiration behind this project, which is intricately woven into every detail.

We sat down with Harriet to discuss her design journey, the inspiration behind this distinctive space, and some of her favourite pieces that make the apartment truly one-of-a-kind.

“As someone who grew up in Australia, I wanted to infuse elements of Australian design into this scheme, creating a subtle yet meaningful connection to Third.i Group's heritage. It’s about blending the warmth and simplicity of Australian aesthetics with the sophistication expected in these homes.”

Harriet Knowlton, Director at BoxNine7

What inspired the vision for this project?

“I wanted to create a neutral colour palette, deeply inspired by the natural landscapes of Australia. The concept was to blend this with a touch of British heritage, using warm tones and textures. We added character and depth with antique pieces and a carefully curated mix of accessories. The design flows from a moody and intimate entrance into a much lighter, airy living space, echoing the journey from dusk to dawn.”

How did you incorporate Australian elements into the design?

“One of my favourite pieces is a striking photograph by a Hunter Valley-based photographer, which now displays in the dining area. It brings a touch of Australia right into the heart of the home.

We also sourced soap from IKKARI, a unique Australian brand you can’t find anywhere in the UK. It’s a personal touch—I discovered it during a holiday in Italy with friends when one of them brought it all the way from Sydney. I knew it would be perfect for this project.”

The apartment is filled with unique accessories! Can you share your sourcing adventures with us?

“Sourcing is one of my favourite parts of the design process. I love exploring different markets across the UK to find those special pieces that bring a room to life. For this apartment, I found some amazing artwork and books, as well as British countryside flowers like dried poppies, which I picked from my own garden. It’s these individual touches that add depth and history, making the space feel truly lived-in, even in a brand-new build.”
