Since 2001, Argent has planned, managed and delivered the regeneration of King's Cross, considered to be one of the most significant urban development projects in the UK

Our Associate, Ed Bishop, caught up with Argent's Residential Marketing Manager, Rachel Jones, to find out more about the benefits of home staging, Argent's approach towards sustainability and more!

Working on the ground-breaking regeneration of King's Cross, what key features of the urban development stands out to you?

"For me, it is how much space we have given over for the public realm, squares and parks. The buildings have space to breathe, and the public areas are there for all to enjoy, and this is what makes King's Cross so successful."

Rachel said, "We brought BoxNine7 in to dress a 3-bed lateral apartment as we wanted a fresh new look. The process was hassle-free, the turnaround was really speedy and the choice of furniture just lovely. It really helps to maximise the apartment and show people the lifestyle that Gasholders really does offer. They are a pleasure to work with, and I'd highly recommend them."

What is Argent's approach towards sustainability in construction?

"In our role as a developer, we have the opportunity to make a positive, even life-changing impact on people and communities, and a responsibility to manage our impact on the environment. We look wider than construction when it comes to sustainability, to how places perform, right the way down to collective behaviours. King's Cross has its own sustainability strategy, and we are setting ourselves environmental, social and wellbeing initiatives to work towards."

Surrounded by green space and amenities, what sets the likes of Gasholders and Fenmen House apart from other developments in the city? With that, what are the benefits of using a rental service when dressing show apartments?

"Gasholders is fairly unique and recognisable. It's form, and therefore apartment shapes offer something different to other developments in London, as well as seeing the beautifully restored Gasholder frame when you look out of your window. Fenman House is much more uniform shape, and some people prefer to have square rooms. The main benefits of renting furniture are flexibility and speed. Being able to change up the look and feel of an apartment more often than you would if you had purchased the furniture outright. Finally, knowing that the furniture is in stock and can be on-site in a few weeks is great."

Earlier in the year due to Covid-19, we saw a shift in people moving out of the city, how has this impacted residential developments in and around London?

"I think zone 1 will always have the appeal, being so close to central London with great connectivity. I think developments which offer amenities, outside space and convenient retail, like King's Cross, will continue to thrive. Certainly, the pandemic has made people rethink their priorities when it comes to home buying, and developers need to react to this to deliver schemes that will appeal."
